Tamara’s Diary 11/8/10

We’ve all been through hard times in our lives. And what’s the easiest thing to do when that happens … get down and be negative about everything. Well the next time you go through hard times remember these words from Tamara herself (diary excerpt):

Nov 8, 2010

From Tamara Overcash

Speaking of my body, I actually had a conversation with it this morning on my two mile loop. I just found myself all of a sudden in conversation. I remember finding out that I had cancer and wondering how this could be true. I mean I try to exercise, eat right, stay away from all of the bad stuff, get 8 hours of sleep, etc…how did I get cancer. Then it dawned on me. Doing those things may help prevent disease but it isn’t a guarantee. And what I have actually been doing over the last several years or decades is just PREPARATION. Preparation for the real fight. So this morning my body and I had a conversation. I simply said “here we go, this is what we have been preparing for.” I suddenly felt amazing…as if my body said “GAME ON.”

So I leave you with some positive things that have come out of my treatment. Emails from friends that I haven’t seen or heard from in years, phenomenal doctors and nurses at Duke, incredible caring friends, family and co-workers, non-existent taste buds to mask hospital food, and a never ending stream of prayers to heaven.

Oh, and for all of you just waiting…my advice to you…start preparing!

Tamara was such a positive person. This is the kind of remarkable strength we wish to share.
