Tamara Ann Loan Overcash was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in October 2010. AML is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells, characterized by the rapid growth of abnormal white blood cells that accumulate in the bone marrow and interfere with the production of normal blood cells.
Tamara spent most of the next 10 months of her life on the 9th floor of Duke University Hospital fighting this disease with round after round of chemotherapy.
The way Tamara fought was an inspiration to many. She was courageous, strong, and faithful throughout it all. No matter how difficult things got she always had a smile on her face. On Monday, August 8, 2011 she peacefully went to be with her Savior.
The Team T Foundation for Leukemia Awareness was established to honor the memory and continue the fight of, our beloved wife, daughter, mother, sister, and friend Tamara.
Our mission statement is:
- Support scholarships for students at Tamara’s beloved Virginia Tech, whose lives have been affected by Leukemia.
- Raise awareness in the greater community about the issues Leukemia patients face, and their need for our support.
- Help those who are presently suffering by making life a little easier on the 9th floor at Duke Hospital, where Tamara spent much of the last nine months of her life.
